The Vapaatila project (translated as 'Free Space') grew out of an interest in researching social environments in the context of the visual arts and digital technology. Students in Helsinki used photos with disposable pocket cameras to record self portraits and personal spaces that reflected recreational time and friendship groups. These images subsequently formed the initial starting point for their work.
