The Vapaatila project (translated as 'Informal Spaces' or Free Space')represented the first multilateral, international collaboration for the Art and Design Department in the Virtual School. The idea for the project grew out of interest in researching space and environment in the context of the visual arts and digital technology.
Students started the project work by taking the photos with disposable pocket cameras to record self portraits and personal spaces that reflected recreational time and friendship groups. These images subsequently formed the initial starting point for their work.
