Placement Context Primary School, Artist Workshops, South Wales |
Louise Mason: Project / Placement Abstract
This self-initiated creative arts project was designed to involve all the children at a village primary school and produce a piece of artwork that reflected their individual identities. The product design was chosen to encourage each child to produce a piece of art which reflected their individuality whilst allowing it to be combined with others into the large final work. The flag made from ‘patch-work’ style assembly of individuals’ pictures was well received by everyone involved. The project had the added bonus of successfully bringing the community together by stimulating discussion between parents, teachers and children on the art work. |

Natalie James: Project / Placement Abstract
In participation of this project, I undertook a short voluntary work placement for four days at Third Floor Gallery in Cardiff, South Wales where they show national and international contemporary photography. In this period I got involved with the galleries research programme and took part in discussions. Additionally I helped in hang an exhibition, promoted it, cleaned the gallery, and took part in the exhibition opening night as the resident photographer. At the end of the placement I had a much better understanding of reading imagery, professionally hanging works and more confidence in networking and communicating in the gallery situation. The ‘Third Floor Gallery’ was the best choice I made, as I thoroughly enjoyed working there, and it gave me access to the regional art community. |

Stephanie Pickett: Project/Placement Abstract
Working with the Head Director and Business Director of Wild-Earth social enterprise, I had the opportunity to participate in two different creative community projects. My intentions for involvement in these projects were to gain experience of the execution of community art groups, the ways in which creativity can be used as a tool in community engagement and development, and to assess the effectiveness of creativity and art within the community project format. |
