Jade SimpsonI often portray alternate realities by presenting impossible objects and ideas in a scientific or 'museological' manner and forcing some sort of truth or portraying symbolism and narrative. I often explore ourselves as a species, humans place in the animal kingdom and how we perceive the world and beyond via art, religion, occultism, spirituality and science and how they are linked all compose my oeuvre.

Placement Context University Science Faculty, Staffordshire |
Jade Simpson: Project/Placement Abstract
The science department of Staffordshire University is the faculty I had decided to work with for my Self Initiated Creative Art Project. I took on a placement that I felt reflected my interests and the style of my practice, namely focusing on science and its relation to art. The staff and scientists in the department happily accepted me as an artist/researcher and I produced images for their publicity and visual materials for current modules and new ‘Short Courses.’ I enjoyed the experience as it gave me time and the freedom to use specialist equipment and explore aesthetic and scientifically images. |
Charmaine Small
My practice is Fine Art photography and I have a strong interest in performance art. In this capacity I am involved in creating sets and I have been nominated set designer for a few film student's projects.
I work with fellow Fine Art students as a director and photographer so some performance works are thoughtful collaborations. |

Charmaine Small: Project / Placement Abstract
Since a young age I have been fortunate enough to experience Theatre. I always enjoyed watching the plays, but overall it was the sets and complimentary lighting that captivated me. I am interested in the ‘making of’ section to films, exploring a broad variety of elements from Set Design and Art Direction. To pursue this ambition I teamed up with a Film Director on set and was the Director of Photography on a short, experimental film Combustion. |
Mark Salt
My current practice is mainly photography based and revolves around my ongoing fascination with the world and my constant need to document it as I see it. From predator/prey scenarios, roadkill, urban photography, to visiting and revisiting sites of spritual and ritualistic significance and recording the minute differences. The camera has become a bridge for me from which I interact and connect with all my chosen photographic subjects. My most recent project documents a beautiful, rugged area of the Peak District and human interaction within the space.

Placement Context Spiritual ‘Medium’ Workshop, Control Psychology, Staffordshire University |
Mark Salt: Project / Placement Abstract
My plan for the project was a simple one to get a well established Medium with a proven track record to visit Staffs University and do a group reading with a selection of close friends and Artists. The event was to be recorded using a number of differing ways to ensure I wouldn’t fail to get some record of it. 1. A High Definition Camcorder 2. Stills Photography from a current DSLR 3. Sound Recordings from a Solid State Recorder. |
Sophie HenshawI’m looking into creating some body art pieces portraying insecurities and issues of the people involved. I’m also looking at how people hold onto things and conversations after relationships
break-down, I’ve recently started a blog in which I aim to get people to share their pain with me so I can put it away in my metaphorical box. |

Placement Context Parks and Open Spaces, Hanley Park, Stoke-on-Trent |
Sophie Henshaw: Project/Placement Abstract
'Stoke-on-Trent is one of the greenest cities in the UK with over 1,380 hectares of park and open spaces. Wherever you are in Stoke-on-Trent, you are never far from one of our many parks and wildlife areas'. http://www.stoke.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/leisure/parks-and-open-spaces/ This statement taken from the leisure page on the Stoke-on-Trent government website gives an insight into what would seem to be a very fun filled city in which there are many activities within the numerous parks for children and adults alike. Finding this a little misleading my placement proposal was an attempt to contribute to the promotion and use of one park in particular. Hanley Park opened in 1897, being one of the oldest parks in Stoke it holds a lot of beautiful Victorian architecture most designed by Thomas Mawson. Over the past few years however the park has received some bad press and visitors have dwindled causing the people of Stoke and the council to neglect the buildings within the park walls. |
