I am a consultant in the arts and a painter. As a Professor and former Head of School, Art and Design Education at Birmingham School of Art I held a number of responsibilities and frequently represented the interests of the subject at national and international level. I continue to research within the broad range of art education and Fine Art practice and while retired from my full-time role in Higher Education I maintain a teaching commitment at Staffordshire University, offering a hybrid form of Artists in Residency at BA undergraduate level (Self-Initiated Creative Arts Project: Work related professional placements).
My research is wide ranging and reflects a strong personal interest in art education. Mindful of the pressures on the subject the work frequently points to the difficulties of reconciling creativity in a continuing climate of reductionism and compliance.
As a practising artist I have a studio and small gallery space in France.
